Carbunari Familydocuments the life of a family living in Maramures that survives by charcoal making.
The family are a couple and their children. They live in a secluded land filled
with forest and bears, the only inhabitants for miles around.

They do not have neighbours, but they do not have plasma screens or laptops,
Ipods or Blackberries. Their reality is to live life through each other,
the parents absorbing the spontaneity and freshness of their children,
the children blossoming beneath the love of their parents.

Maramureş is known for its pastoral and agricultural traditions, largely unscathed by the industrialisation campaign
that had been carried on during Romania's communist period. Ploughing, planting, harvesting,
and hay making and handling are mostly done through manual labour. The county is also
home to a strong mining industry of extraction of metals other than iron.
