Brunsbüttel is a town in the district of Dithmarschen, in Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany that lies on the mouth of the Elbe river, near the North Sea. It is also one of the entrances to the Kiel Canal, the other being located at Kiel-Holtenau. Brunsbüttel Nuclear Power Plant is located here.
The Nuclear Plant started operation in 1976 and has a gross power production of 806 MW. As part of the nuclear power phase-out, it is scheduled to be taken out of service in 2009.
